Anyone know why they stopped producing the slant-six? Was there some sort of inherent flaw to them, or were V6s just easier to make?
Also, that is a great looking car. Old muscle is best muscle.

They made them until the late 80s in trucks and further in marine and other applications. They just got old. Never had a fuel injected variant. Would have been an awkward in an FWD application.

Stop. I really would love to own a duster|demon|volare|dart|valiant|scamp — don't draw attention to them!
Nothing to see here folks - move on to the next post!

Great engine. The inherent lifter tick made them special.

Cletus44, I like your style. I keep seeing this 1974 around. Never can catch the owner. Same color.

I love the proportions of the Scamp/Swinger body style. It just looks "right."

The exhaust ports and intake ports were right next to each other, which caused them to vapor lock.
When ease of staring became synonymous with reliability, they had to axe it.
The engine block was bulletproof, but cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds would soak up a bunch of heat and require gas-pedal trickery to get it to start.
